Miami Coffee Shops

Coffee is such a big part of the culture in Miami. From hanging out at the ventanita to making cafecito for the office during the afternoon slump to having a cafe con leche with breakfast, coffee is part of the every day routine. Fortunately, there are dozens (if not hundreds) of coffee shops keeping the Magic City caffeinated. You can also check out local coffee shops at the “Coffee Shops” story highlight on my Instagram @coffeeeandcountries.

Al’s Coffee Shop

Al’s is the definition of a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop. Not only is their coffee good, but also their prices. A large cafe con leche is less than $3 here. Get some Cuban toast to dip in it.

B Bistro

B Bistro is a restaurant/coffee shop/bakery down the street from Brickell City Centre. A very popular brunch spot on weekends, but you can also walk right up to the counter and get a coffee to go. Treat yourself and throw in some croissants and macaroons.
600 Brickell Ave., #175, Brickell

Bachour

Owned by renowned pastry chef Antonio Bachour, their coffee is as good as their pastries. To order, walk past the hostess stand to the display case of baked goods. Get a box of stuffed croissants (Nutella, pistachio, hazelnut) while you’re at it.

Borsalino

An authentic coffee shop with customers getting breakfast with friends or grabbing a coffee and getting work done. They have an entire section of their coffee menu dedicated to cold coffees (it’s always iced coffee season in Miami) and it has so much more than just the average iced latte and cold brew. There’s also an iced cappuccino, iced espresso, iced macchiato and their B Signature Coffee (a cinnamon vanilla latte).

Cafe Demetrio

Cafe Demetrio is an icon in Coral Gables. It opened in 1997 and is in the building that used to be home to the city’s first newspaper. Before ordering your usual coffee, take a look at the menu. They have some pretty unique drinks, like the Cafe Leo, a latte with their secret cacao powder, caramel, and either vanilla or hazelnut syrup. The outdoor courtyard is absolutely stunning and its entirely shaded by one massive (oak?) tree.
300 Alhambra Cir., Coral Gables

Cafe Grumpy

Cafe Grumpy constantly has new and original latte flavors, like orange and dulce de leche. While some coffee shops also have a full menu, their main focus is coffee, selling only pastries and snacks food-wise. They also sell bags of their coffee on their website.
2516 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables

Casa Tua Cucina

Most people know Casa Tua as a great Italian restaurant on the ground floor of Brickell City Centre. And it is. But they also have great coffee at their dessert stand. Make a left once you enter and order your favorite coffee.
70 SW 7th St., Brickell

Chef Sucre Cafe

Chef Sucre Cafe is a French restaurant/coffee shop, which is hard to come by in Miami where most places are Cuban or Latin American. Since they’re French, the food menu includes dishes like a Croque Monsieur/Madame. Of course, they still offer cafe con leche and cortadito.
475 Biltmore Way #104B, Coral Gables

Crema Gourmet Espresso Bar

The quality of the coffee at Crema is amazing. And whenever I get a flavored latte, it’s never too syrup-y, and has just the right amount of flavoring. They also serve breakfast all day, and the open-faced breakfast sandwich is my favorite item on the menu. Crema is rapidly expanding, so be on the lookout for one opening in your neighborhood – if it hasn’t already.

El Bagel

If you’re a New York transplant like me, go here to get your bagel fix. Make sure to place an order online as early as possible, because they sell out quickly. Even if you don’t order in time, you can still go and grab a coffee.

FRSHst

Owned by Fresh Del Monte Produce, FRSHst is on the ground floor of their Gables headquarters. They are a fast, but fresh food cafe, emphasizing that you can still eat healthy even if you’re in a hurry. In addition to coffee, they also offer sandwiches, smoothies, bowls, and fresh pressed juices.

I Think She Is

On the outskirts of Brickell, I Think She Is is a super trendy coffee shop. They have all of the classic coffee offerings, as well as some original ones (treat yourself to a Nutella latte). I Think She Is recently underwent a renovation and now they have an awesome outdoor seating area. They also have the friendliest staff; I always leave there with a smile on my face (and not just because they’re enabling my caffeine addiction).

Le Jardin

Le Jardin is a pop-up coffee shop in the most literal way. A solar-powered coffee cart, it’s never in the same place two days in a row. Follow them on Instagram @lejardin_mrkt to see where they’ll be located every day. When you do find them, order a cold brew.

Madruga Bakery

If you’re stopping by Madruga to grab your morning coffee, throw in an egg sandwich to the order as well. Made with an over-easy egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, sautéed greens and an herb aioli served on an onion poppy roll, it’s easily one of the fanciest and most delicious egg sandwiches I’ve ever had.

Majestic Portuguese Bakehouse

Across the street from the shopping center with Bed Bath & Beyond, Petsmart and Marshall’s on Coral Way, is, naturally, a Portuguese bakery. In addition to coffee, they serve traditional food items like pastel de nata and the Francesinha sandwich.

OTL

OTL’s slogan is “Everyone welcome” for a reason. Like most places in the Design District, you’ll find people from all walks of life in this cafe. Businesspeople, art students, housewives, everyone has one thing in common: A need for caffeine.

Panther Coffee

If I could go to Panther Coffee every day, I would. While normally I get a latte or cold brew when at a coffee shop, here I just get a plain iced coffee with a little bit of cream. Their coffee is so delicious that it doesn’t need anything else. So it comes as no surprise that they have locations all over Miami.

Pasion del Cielo

Pasion del Cielo serves coffee from all over the world, like Ethiopia, Kenya, and Cuba. In each location, there is a flavor profile underneath every country, ranking the bean on things like flavor and acidity. They also sell bags of their single origin coffee online, so you can have their delicious coffee without having to leave the house.

Puroast Coffee

From the outside, Puroast looks pretty small, but it’s surprisingly big on the inside – especially for a coffee shop in Brickell. They always have a couple of blends to choose from when ordering a regular or iced coffee. The Greca, served in a giant cafetera, is great for sharing with a fellow coffee lover.

Raccoon Coffee

If you’re walking toward Brickell Key, make a left right before crossing the bridge. A little ways down, you’ll find a park area with tables, benches, and food trucks. Until 4 p.m. on weekdays and 3 p.m. on weekends, one of those food trucks is Raccoon Coffee. Grab a coffee and walk around Brickell Key or just sit on a bench and enjoy the view.

Rosetta

Rosetta has a half-dozen locations in Miami, with their newest opening in Brickell in early 2021. Rosetta is an authentic Italian bakery, named after a specific type of bread. So be sure to get a focaccia or bombolone with your cappuccino.

Sacha’s Cafe

Sacha’s is a hidden gem in Coral Gables. Tucked into the courtyard of the 2525 Ponce building, brings a sophisticated European experience to Miami. They have great breakfast pastries and lunch sandwiches. Their coffee sizes are on the smaller size, but they do ask if you like your coffee light or dark, which is appreciated because there’s nothing worse than drinking a coffee that’s mostly milk.
2525 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables

Suite Habana Cafe

Their slogan is “Mi casa es tu casa,” which says all you need to know about the friendliness of this coffee shop. So it makes sense that it has the vibe of a neighborhood hangout; a Central Perk of Miami, if you will. Their massive, buttery, and flaky croissants are just an added bonus to their excellent coffee.
2609 N. Miami Ave., Wynwood

The Bagel Club Miami

In the heart of Wynwood, The Bagel Club Miami is known for its giant bagel sandwiches. For breakfast, they have options like bacon, egg and cheese, and cream cheese and lox. For lunch there’s deli sandwiches like pastrami and Swiss and turkey and Swiss. Of course you can always just get the classic bagel with cream cheese. Wash it all down with a refreshing cold brew.

The Daily Creative Food Co.

Most of the time when I go to a coffee shop, I’m just grabbing a coffee to-go. But I cannot go to The Daily Creative Food Co. without getting something to eat; it’s that good. I usually go for the breakfast burrito, made with scrambled eggs, chorizo, pepper jack cheese, caramelized onions and cilantro. Truly a great place to cure a hangover.

The Salty Donut

Having originated in Wynwood, The Salty Donut has expanded to South Miami and even Texas. Coffee and doughnuts go hand in hand, so the success of this joint comes as no surprise. Their original doughnuts include flavors like white chocolate tres leches, guava and cheese, and the ever-popular maple and bacon. For a real sugar rush, pair one of these with the salted caramel latte. UM students, definitely take advantage when their food truck is on campus.

Threefold Cafe

Threefold Cafe has somewhat of a cult following. Owned by Aussie Nick Sharp, there are now three locations in Miami. The coffee alone is worth the visit, but you have to stay for breakfast. While avocado toast may not be normally what you’d order at a restaurant because you can easily make it at home, their Smashed Avo Toast in unparalleled. An entire avocado is smashed and served on top a piece of toast with a layer of mushrooms in between. It’s then topped with lime juice, feta cheese and basil. Get a poached egg on top and thank me later.
701 Brickell Ave., #101 (inside the Bank of America Financial Center), Brickell
141 Giralda Ave., Coral Gables
6907 S. Red Rd., Coral Gables (though they call this the South Miami location)

Tinta y Cafe

If you’re speeding down Ponce, you’ll easily miss this place. It’s right after Salamanca Avenue (or before, depending on which direction you’re coming from), just before the road splits into Ponce and East Ponce. This is a Cuban cafe, so you know the coffee is going to be good. Whether your preference is a cafe con leche, colada, or cortadito, there are no bad brews. They also have an incredible Cuban sandwich.

Toasted Bagelry & Deli

There are two things in particular that I love about Toasted’s coffee: Their iced coffee comes with coffee cubes instead of ice cubes, so it doesn’t get watered down as the ice melts. And they don’t charge extra for flavored syrups. Their coffee cups say “New York bagels got nothin’ on us,” and while that may not be completely true, their bagels are definitely top notch (for Miami). They also have awesome salads and sandwiches for lunch.

True Baristas

True Baristas is a coffee truck on 13th Street in between South Miami Avenue and Brickell Avenue. They opened in October 2020 and were pretty much an instant success. They’re especially popular among cyclists who don’t have to lock up their bike to get their morning coffee.
1300 Brickell Ave., Brickell

Vice City Bean

Vice City Bean’s coffee is just phenomenal. I had heard a lot of good things about them before I tried them for myself, so my expectations were pretty high. But they definitely lived up to the hype. The cold brew is smooth, refreshing and not acidic at all.

XO Espresso Bar

There are two XO Espresso Bar locations in Miami. The Miami Beach location is a standalone coffee shop. The Brickell location is actually a pop-up coffee cart in the Icon. This tiny little kiosk still packs a punch and offers everything that the storefront XO Espresso Bar does – except for seating, of course. It’s so convenient for residents and guests of the Icon, or for anyone walking around Brickell who needs a coffee break.
