Long Island Coffee Shops

If you’re looking for a good cup of cawfee on Lawng Island (we don’t really talk like that here FYI), try any of these shops from the North Shore to the North Fork.

Copenhagen Bakery
This is a very popular bakery in Northport and a must for locals who haven’t been yet. They have just about every time of baked good imaginable and an extensive coffee menu too. When I stopped by on a warm fall morning there was a live band playing and tons of people sitting outside enjoying the atmosphere. If you have some time to kill, order a coffee and a freshly made pastry and enjoy it by the water.
75 Woodbine Ave., Northport

Goldberg’s Famous Bagels
Yes, this is primarily a bagel shop, but like most bagel shops in New York, their coffee does not disappoint. Two of the reasons I love their coffee is that they brew a separate hazelnut iced coffee (my favorite coffee flavor), so you don’t have to add any syrup to it. They also put coffee cubes in it so it doesn’t get watered down. Don’t forget an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese.
1451 Main Rd., Jamesport

Great Harvest Bakery Cafe
Having just opened in June 2020, Great Harvest Bakery Cafe is a new addition to the shopping center in Woodbury. Here, it’s all about the bread. All of their sandwiches use the bread that they make in-house. The Loaded Bacon is made with eggs, Swiss cheese, bacon, avocado, tomato and a garlic herb spread on honey whole wheat bread. Pair it with a latte, espresso, or cold brew. On top of breakfast and lunch, they also sell entire loaves, which are fresh out of the oven every day at 10 a.m.
8285 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury

Hampton Coffee Company
A local chain on the North and South Fork, Hampton Coffee Company has locations in Riverhead, Westhampton Beach, Water Mill, Southampton, and Montauk. Their flagship is the Water Mill location, which opened over 20 years ago. Pick up an iced coffee and hit the beach!
732 Montauk Hwy., Montauk
272 Main Rd., Riverhead
749 County Rd. #39A, Southampton
869 Montauk Hwy., Water Mill
194 Mill Rd., Westhampton Beach

Love Lane Kitchen
If you have time, I highly recommend staying here for a sit-down breakfast. If not, they have a self-serve coffee station right when you walk in and they can also make lattes behind the bar. After getting your caffeine fix, go explore the rest of quaint Love Lane. There are so many cute stores including a cheese shop, boutique, florist and candy store.
240 Love Ln., Mattituck

Main Road Biscuit Co.
Located on, you guessed it, Main Road in Jamesport, Main Road Biscuit Co. is a breakfast hotspot. You’ll definitely want to get here early for a sit-down meal, especially on weekends. But if you’re just getting a coffee to-go, you can walk right up to the counter and order. Sadly, they don’t have an espresso machine (yet), which means no lattes, but their cold brew is smooth and strong.
1601 Main Rd., Jamesport

Mongo’s Coffee
Off of Jericho Turnpike in Syosset, Mongo’s is a massive coffee roastery/lounge. They roast, blend and package all of their coffee on site, which is available for purchase in-store or online. You can even get a 64 oz. Growler filled with cold brew. There are plenty of tables and couches if you’re looking for a spot to get some work done or just kill some time with a good book. The service was a little slow when I visited, but it was a Monday morning so I won’t hold it against them.
170 Michael Dr., Syosset

North Fork Doughnut Company
This isn’t your average doughnut shop. Theirs are massive and come in a ton of flavors, not to mention seasonal options. I got the caramel coffee cake, oreo, Fruity Pebbles, and jelly-filled. The caramel coffee cake was obviously my favorite. And though definitely the most traditional, the jelly-filled was one of the best. They don’t have a ton of options when it comes to coffee, but their in-house cold brew packs a punch. They also sell cans of Sail Away cold brew. Their flagship is on the North Fork in Mattituck (hence the name), but they also have a Bay Shore location for you South Shore people.

5 E Main St., Bay Shore

Roots Juice Bar & Cafe
If you’re looking for a healthy food spot in Huntington, Roots should be your go-to. The menu consists of salads, smoothies, sandwiches, açai bowls and fresh pressed juices. They also sell four different types of juice cleanses if you’re into that type of thing. As for coffee, they offer all the standards plus a lavender latte and a rose latte.
392 New York Ave., Huntington

Scoops & Grinds
Scoops & Grinds is a cute little coffee and ice cream shop in Cutchogue. The staff is friendly and the customers are locals stopping in for breakfast or lunch. If you don’t feel like eating ice cream with your morning coffee, they also have sandwiches and pastries.
31000 Main Rd., Cutchogue

Soul Brew
Out of all the coffee shops I’ve been to, I think Soul Brew offers the most flavors, like Cinnabon, salted caramel and toasted marshmallow. They also have a peanut butter cup latte that I’m dying to try. For breakfast, they serve items like eggs Benedict, build-your-own avocado toast and three different kinds of breakfast burritos.
387 New York Ave., Huntington

Southdown Coffee
With four locations on the North Shore, Southdown Coffee has all the classics, like drip coffee, cold brew, and lattes. They also have delicious food items that go beyond the regular muffins and croissants, like avocado toast, breakfast tacos and avo-pesto grilled cheese. It is a little pricey, in my opinion, but hey it’s Long Island.
149 Glen St., Glen Cove
210-B Wall St., Huntington
72 Main St., Northport
47 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay

Stella Blue
If you’re going to Stella Blue for your morning (or afternoon) coffee, go on an empty stomach. They serve breakfast all day, giving you plenty of time to get the breakfast burrito. I’m sure the other food is good, too, but I always default to the burrito. The restaurant is ’70s-themed and the vibes are definitely groovy.
188 New York Ave., Huntington

Sweetie Pie’s
Sweetie Pie’s is located on the edge of the main road in Cold Spring Harbor. Just down the road from my high school, it was my go-to place when I needed a coffee break senior year. I know it’s more commonplace now, but back then this was the only coffee shop I had been to that used iced coffee cubes, and for that they will forever hold a special place in my heart. Other than amazing coffee, they also serve a ton of baked goods like muffins, scones and macarons.
181 Main St., Cold Spring Harbor

The Gourmet Whaler
Open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Gourmet Whaler is good for breakfast, lunch, a coffee run or an afternoon snack. After picking up a coffee (or food), definitely walk down to the park in Cold Spring Harbor to enjoy it by the water. Their drink sizes are huge, so a small will definitely suffice.
111 Main St., Cold Spring Harbor

Urban Coffee
A family-owned cafe in Greenlawn, Urban Coffee serves coffee, homemade pastries, ice cream and acai bowls. This cozy coffee shop has been open since 2008. Their oat milk latte is the perfect way to warm up on a cold and rainy morning.
101 Broadway, Greenlawn
